The Last School on Earth

An adventure in education.

The project, and this site are very much in the development stages. Please be patient as we work to define and develop The Last School on Earth project.

Mission
Statement:

Our goal is to support education in remote, and developing areas of the globe by creating, and maintaining, supporting links between remote schools, and mentor schools in the developed world.

It is not our intention to attempt reach the most desperate areas of the third world, but rather be the next step up. Education is the key to improving mankind's future. It fosters understanding and facilitates informed thought, which is the very root of democracy and human rights.

Making Connections

We endeavor to support remote, and isolated schools, and raise awareness for other cultures and ways of life by:

  • Establishing manageable relationships between schools in isolated areas and Schools in North America, and Europe.
  • Setting up, and maintaining an internet connection, via satellite if necessary, to give them the capabilities of connecting with the world at large.
  • Supporting disadvantaged schools with gifts of basic school supplies provided by the mentoring school.

During our visits we will deliver books and basic school supplies to show our support, and reinforce the connection. It is our hope to attract the support of schools in the developed world, and pair them with one of our remote schools. We believe this can be a situation that would benefit both schools in very special ways.

We will encourage, and facilitate face to face video meetings between the paired schools via the satellite linked internet, so that the students may get a chance to make their own personal connections.

To accomplish this we will:

  • Provide hardware
  • Internet access account
  • Electric generator

We believe that education is the key to a better future for all mankind, and that raising awareness, and making connections can only further the positive aims of humanity.

An adventure in education.

As a catalyst to raise awareness of the challenges of education in remote areas, "The Last School on Earth” is planning video documentary journey to some of the most isolated schools in the world. We hope to produce 8 episodes in 2008. The premise of the production will be; an 8 year old Canadian boy, spending a week in class at remote and isolated schools all over the world. Since Nicolas Scott, our host, speaks English, French, and Portuguese, we have quite a range of possibilities for full participation. This will be the point of course; rather than just a spectator, Nick will fully participate in the day to day classes in the hosting school, and help setup a connection between these schools. Hosted by, and with the perspective of a child, we believe the approach will be from a totally new and engaging angle.

We believe we will find an audience for this production in the many specialty channels currently featuring a wide range of reality based adventure, travel, and educational programming.

Currently only in the planning stages, we are in talks with several small production houses, but seeking all and any support, of any kind. All we can offer in return for your support is our thanks, and credits that will roll past too fast for anyone to read them...but any show of support is welcome.

To Show your support

If you are a school that would like to mentor one of our remote locations, or if you have school supplies or books you do not need, let us know. If you are interested in sponsoring our project or providing technical advice, or if you have connections that you think we may be able to use, let us know. Or just let us know what you think of our little project….
